Bachelors of Fine Arts in Illustration: Thesis

This is a series of illustrations focused on the loss of the life the church promised me, and how I’ve reconfigured myself into something new.

My BFA thesis was a set of nine gouache illustrations on drafting film (a semi-opaque, super smooth, polyester based surface) These illustrations were reinterpretations of the eight “young womens values” that I grew up with in a conservative christian church. Faith, Divine Nature, Individual Worth, Knowledge, Choice and Accountability, Good Works, Integrity, and Virtue all had the context of the church behind them, and this body of work explores what those words mean to me now, a decade after extricating myself from the church, with the addition of my own “value” - Truth.

To accomplish this I utilized a mix of Medieval and contemporary iconography to represent each concept.
